Prep Cook Job Summary:
As a prep cook you will follow established methods and procedures in performing, picking and prepping raw materials for recipe production per Kettle Cuisine customer work orders pick list. You will employ high standards of workmanship to ensure all work orders produced are to the highest quality. You will understand implications of work, and make recommendations for improvement. Picker/Prepper must be able to work in a team oriented atmosphere and is also responsible for completing all daily work orders. Daily production schedule will be provided by the Prep Team Lead. Prep Cook requires independent judgment and problem solving skills.
Prep Cook Duties & Essential Job Functions:
  • Adhere to safe working practices at all times
  • Prep raw materials as requested on paperwork for each work order
  • Have work orders completed on time
  • Pay attention and ensure quality on ingredients is the best
  • Perform daily checks of area for non-compliance and report them to your supervisor • Ensure finished product conforms to specifications
  • Manufacture quality products efficiently within time and quantity parameters
  • Follow the company GMP’s
  • Ensure clean and tidy production area at all times
  • Report Downtime to maintenance in a timely manner
  • Communicate and update all relevant parties of any issues or changes (low yields, etc.)
  • Monitor and action all waste
  • Manage inventory of raw material
  • Plan ahead to ensure no downtime in kitchen
  • Set up following shift for success
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out neatly and correctly and signed off
  • Thawing – ensure proper protocol for slacking is followed
  • Keep accurate temperatures in a timely fashion according to the paperwork and the HACCP plan (when necessary)
Prep Cook Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience as a cook or prep cook
  • Ability to work all scheduled 12 hour shifts, on time
  • Ability to work weekends when required
  • Ability to use knife as it is a tool
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed for working in a team environment
  • Proven track record in safe working practices
  • Experience working in temperature controlled settings
  • Experience with perishable items
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs
  • Able to interact and communicate with the supervisors and team members
  • Passion for food and high quality
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Numeracy skills
Prep Cook Preferred Skills:
  • Manufacturing experience preferred (preferably in the food industry)
  • Experience working with dicing machinery preferred
  • Bi-lingual preferred
